This is a 1951 United States 3-cent commemorative postage stamp, Scott Catalog #1000, issued on July 24, 1951, to mark the 250th anniversary of Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac’s founding of Detroit. The blue stamp features a historical depiction of Cadillac’s 1701 landing, with a canoe party arriving on the riverbank, set against a silhouette of the modern 1951 Detroit skyline. Cadillac established Fort Pontchartrain du Detroit under a charter from King Louis XIV to secure French control of the fur trade. The city would later rise to global prominence as the “Motor Capital” of the world.
