This is a 1953 United States 3-cent commemorative postage stamp, Scott Catalog #1018, issued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Ohio’s admission to the Union in 1803. The stamp features an outline of the state of Ohio with the Great Seal prominently displayed. Sixteen stars line the sides of the stamp, representing the states admitted before Ohio, while a 17th star above the seal honors Ohio’s place as the 17th state. A buckeye leaf and nut appear in the design, referencing Ohio’s nickname, the “Buckeye State.”
