This is a 1955 United States 3-cent commemorative postage stamp, Scott Catalog No. 1068, issued to honor the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the “Old Man of the Mountain” rock formation in New Hampshire. The stamp features a green illustration of the iconic granite profile, once perched high in the White Mountains and recognized as the official state emblem. The stamp also bears New Hampshire’s motto, “Live Free or Die.” Composed of five ledges of Conway granite, the formation collapsed on May 3, 2003, but remains a symbol of state pride and natural heritage.
