Commemorative 5-cent U.S. postage stamp issued in 1963 to mark the 100th anniversary of West Virginia’s statehood. Designed by Dr. Dwight Muchler, the stamp features a red outline map of West Virginia, the U.S. Capitol building, and the dates 1863–1963. It honors the formation of West Virginia during the Civil War, when 40 counties broke away from Virginia to remain in the Union. Lightly mounted with stamp hinge tape, removable without damage. No gum disturbance unless noted.
