This lot includes 7 unused “Heroes of 2001” semi‑postal stamps (Scott #B2), issued by the United States Postal Service on June 7, 2002, as part of the America Responds series. The design features Thomas E. Franklin’s iconic photograph of three firefighters raising the American flag amid the rubble of the World Trade Center following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Each stamp carried a non‑denominated value of 45¢, with 34¢ for first‑class postage and an 11¢ surcharge directed to a fund administered by FEMA to assist families of emergency relief personnel who died or were permanently disabled. The stamp remained on sale through December 2004, raising over $10 million for the cause. These stamps are mint never hinged (MNH) and remain attached to their original pane.
