The Air Force Commendation Medal (AFCM) is awarded to members of the U.S. Air Force for acts of heroism, meritorious achievement, or service. Established on March 28, 1958, it recognizes contributions that enhance the mission and goals of the Air Force.
Measuring 1-7/16 inches in diameter and 3-1/4 inches in overall height, this medal features a pinback design for secure attachment. The obverse side displays a bronze hexagon with an eagle at its center, wings spread, clutching arrows, and bearing a shield on its chest. The reverse side includes a blank panel for engraving, framed by the inscription "FOR MILITARY MERIT" and a laurel sprig.
The ribbon is light blue with yellow and dark blue stripes, symbolizing honor and service.
Note: They had glued this to a display and I heated most of the glue off, but the pinback does appear to be damaged on this and not close properly.
