Air Force Good Conduct Medal Ribbon, 1-3/8"L x 3/8"H USAF
Dimensions 1-3/8"L x 3/8"H
Acquired from a Military Surplus Store that went out of business
The Air Force Good Conduct Medal (AFGCM) is granted to any enlisted personnel of the U.S. military (except U.S. Air Force personnel after 2006) who completes three consecutive years of "honorable and faithful service." This type of service insinuates that a standard enlistment was completed without any non-judicial punishments, disciplinary infractions, or court martial offenses. If an offense is committed by a service member then the three-year mark "resets" and a service member must complete an additional three years of discipline free service before the Good Conduct may be accredited. The AFGCM was created June 1st, 1963 and then in October 2005 a decision was made to discontinue the medal with the justification that good conduct is presumed standard, not an exceptional occurrence worthy of recognition
