This is a Novelty United States Army subdued shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) for the 16th Engineer Brigade, nicknamed the "Iron Castle" brigade. The design features a circular disc with two crossed towers, forming a saltire pattern that symbolizes the unit's combat engineering mission and support role. The symbolism of the crossed towers also alludes to the Roman numeral "X" and the three merlons on each tower to represent the unit's numerical designation of 16. Measuring 2-1/4" in diameter, this embroidered patch is rendered in a subdued olive drab and black color scheme for field use. As a sew-on patch, it is intended for permanent application on tactical gear, uniforms, or commemorative displays.
