Block of four 32¢ Bessie Coleman stamps issued April 27, 1995 as the 18th release in the USPS Black Heritage Series. Illustrated by Chris Calle, the design shows Coleman in her 1920s leather flight helmet and goggles. Coleman was the first African American woman and first person of Native American descent to earn an international pilot’s license, receiving it in France in 1921 after U.S. schools denied her entry. Known as “Queen Bess,” she became a celebrated stunt pilot and civil‑rights advocate. Identified as Scott 2956. All stamps are mint, never hinged, with original gum and clean perforations.
