The Medal for Humane Action is a distinguished award established by an Act of Congress in 1949.
Created to honor individuals who participated in the Berlin Airlift from June 26, 1948, to September 30, 1949.
This medal recognizes those who provided humanitarian aid and support during this critical post-World War II operation.
The medal itself measures 1-1/4"D with an overall height of 2-7/8 inches when including the pinback.
The design features a C-54 aircraft (used in the Berlin Airlift) encircled by a wreath of wheat, symbolizing the delivery of essential supplies. The reverse side inscription: "TO SUPPLY NECESSITIES OF LIFE TO THE PEOPLE OF BERLIN GERMANY," its humanitarian purpose.
The ribbon accompanying the medal is striped with black, teal blue, white, and scarlet.
