The Prisoner of War (P.O.W.) Medal is awarded to U.S. Armed Forces personnel who were taken prisoner and held captive while engaged in military operations. Established by Congress on November 8, 1985, it is retroactive to service dating back to April 5, 1917.
The obverse side of the medal features a bald eagle with wings spread, symbolizing strength and resilience, surrounded by a ring of barbed wire and bayonet points, representing captivity. The reverse side includes the inscription "FOR HONORABLE SERVICE WHILE A PRISONER OF WAR."
The ribbon is black and white, symbolizing the stark conditions of captivity and the perseverance of those who endured it. This medal is a profound recognition of sacrifice and courage.
Note: They has this glued on display, I used hair dryer and removed it, but there is still some glue that you can finish removing if desired, but the pin closes and opens without issue.
