Plate block of four 32¢ stamps issued September 15, 1997, honoring Padre Félix Varela, the Cuban-born priest, educator, and human-rights advocate who spent three decades serving immigrant communities in New York City. This issue is historically notable as the first U.S. stamp to use microprinting for the entire portrait, with the vignette composed of tiny “USPS” lettering. Mint, never hinged with original gum. Selvage includes plate number P1 and copyright markings. Identified as Scott No. 3166.
