The Vietnam Service Medal honors U.S. Armed Forces personnel who served in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, or Thailand during the Vietnam War from July 4, 1965, to March 28, 1973. Measuring 1-1/4 inches in diameter and 3-1/8 inches in overall height, this medal features a pinback design for secure attachment.
The obverse side depicts a dragon behind bamboo, symbolizing the region and its challenges. The reverse side includes the inscription "REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM SERVICE," surrounded by a laurel wreath, representing honor and achievement.
The ribbon incorporates yellow with three red stripes, reflecting the flag of the Republic of Vietnam, and green edges, symbolizing the jungles of Vietnam. Bronze stars are added to the ribbon for participation in specific campaigns
