The Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces for outstanding non-combat meritorious achievement or service. Established on January 16, 1969, it serves as a counterpart to the Bronze Star Medal for non-combat recognition.
Measuring 1-9/16 inches in diameter and 3-1/4 inches in overall height, this medal features a pinback design for secure attachment. The obverse side displays a bronze medallion with an eagle standing on laurel branches, wings raised, symbolizing honor and achievement. Above the eagle is a five-pointed star, representing excellence. The reverse side includes the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "MERITORIOUS SERVICE."
The ribbon is crimson with white stripes, symbolizing valor and integrity. This medal is often awarded for sustained acts of excellence or significant contributions.
