U.S. Marine Corps khaki tie with a 3-inch width was primarily used during the mid-1950s through the early 1970s, aligning with the Service "A" and "B" uniforms of that era.
Usage Period:
- 1950s–1970s:
- The 3" wide khaki tie was standard issue for enlisted and officer service uniforms, especially during the post–Korean War and Vietnam War periods.
- It was worn with the khaki shirt and green service coat, part of the Service "A" uniform, and occasionally with the blue dress "C" uniform.
- The material was typically a wool/Dacron blend, offering durability and wrinkle resistance.
- Transition Period (Late 1970s–1980s):
- Tie widths began to narrow slightly in line with broader fashion trends and uniform updates.
- The 3" version was gradually phased out in favor of 3-1/8" or slimmer variants, which remain in use today under MCO 1020.34H (2018 revision).
