The Illinois Union of Telephone Workers in 1942 was part of the broader movement to unionize telephone workers in the United States

During this time, the National Federation of Telephone Workers (NFTW) played a significant role in organizing telephone workers and advocating for their rights

The NFTW later became the Communications Workers of America (CWA) in 1947

The union focused on improving working conditions, wages, and job security for telephone workers

They also worked to counteract company unions promoted by AT&T to prevent genuine unionism
