The Army of Occupation of Germany Medal was established on November 21, 1941, to recognize U.S. Army personnel who served in Germany or Austria-Hungary between November 12, 1918, and July 11, 1923. It honors contributions during the post-World War I occupation.
Measuring 1-1/4 inches in diameter and 3 inches in overall height, this medal features a pinback design for secure attachment. The obverse side displays a profile of General John J. Pershing, encircled by four stars indicating his rank as Commanding General of the Field Forces. The reverse side depicts an American eagle perched on Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, overlooking the Rhine in Coblenz, Germany, encircled by the words "U.S. ARMY OF OCCUPATION OF GERMANY" and three stars symbolizing the Third Army.
The ribbon incorporates blue, white, black, and red stripes, representing the national colors and the unity of the armed forces.
